Shipping & Returns
Everything you need to know about how your piece gets to you — and what to do if something isn't right.
Shipping
Every Amate artwork is handcrafted by indigenous Otomí artisans and made to order. Depending on availability at the time of purchase, your piece will ship from one of two locations:
- San Pablito, Puebla, Mexico — our artisan workshop, where each piece is created by hand
- United States fulfillment partner — a curated selection of finished pieces held domestically for faster delivery
The fulfillment origin is determined at the time of order placement based on current inventory. Regardless of origin, every piece is carefully layered between thick protective cardboard to ensure it arrives safely.
Domestic (US)
Free standard shipping on orders over $50. Estimated delivery is 2–3 weeks, depending on fulfillment origin and production schedule.
International
We ship to 20+ countries worldwide. Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on destination and package weight.
Returns
We offer a 21-day return policy from the date you receive your order. To be eligible, your item must be unused, in its original condition, and in its original packaging.
To initiate a return, please contact us at returns@amate.co. If approved, we'll provide instructions on how and where to send your piece. The buyer is responsible for return shipping costs and any loss in value if the item is not returned in original condition.
Items sent back without first requesting a return will not be accepted.
A Note on Handcrafted Work
Each Amate piece is a one-of-a-kind artwork, handmade by a single artisan using traditional techniques passed down through generations. This means that natural slight variations in color, texture, and pattern are part of what make your piece truly unique. if for any reason you change your mind, we do accept returns with 21 days of delivery, as long as the artwork is returned in its orginal condition and packaging. We encourage you to review product dimension, and photos carefully before purchasing — and please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions before placing your order.
Cancellations
We accept order cancellations within 24 hours of purchase. If you need to cancel, please contact us at cancellations@amate.co as soon as possible within this timeframe.
Damages & Issues
Please inspect your order upon delivery. If your item arrives defective, damaged, or incorrect, contact us immediately with photos so we can evaluate the issue and make it right.
Customs & Import Taxes
Buyers are responsible for any customs duties and import taxes that may apply to international orders. We are not responsible for delays due to customs processing.
EU Cooling-Off Period
Orders shipped to the European Union are eligible for cancellation or return within 14 days for any reason, per EU consumer rights. Items must be unused and in original packaging. The buyer is responsible for return shipping costs.
Refunds
Once we receive and inspect your return, we'll notify you whether the refund has been approved. If approved, your refund will be processed to your original payment method within 10 business days.
Please allow additional time for your bank or credit card company to post the refund. If more than 15 business days have passed since approval, please contact us at returns@amate.co.
